Brand Story
Heritage
Fritz Hansen's history begins in 1872, when cabinet maker Fritz Hansen obtained a trade licence in Copenhagen; in 1885 he opened a furniture company in his own name, and his workshop in Christianshavn soon thrived. Its first fifty years brought prestigious commissions for the Danish Parliament and Supreme Court at Christiansborg Palace, the University Library and Copenhagen City Hall.
Philosophy
The company describes itself as driven by a passion for beauty, quality, craftsmanship and responsible manufacturing, embodying a modern Nordic lifestyle. Christian Hansen's early experiments with steam-bending made it a world leader in moulded and laminated wood furniture.
