Story
Chairs for an Oxford college
Fritz Hansen's text says the Oxford was originally designed by Jacobsen for the professors of St. Catherine's College at the University of Oxford, England. Wikipedia describes the college as Jacobsen's work from the buildings down to the furniture, cutlery, lampshades and gardens, and notes that it received full college status in 1962.

From college chair to office chair
The product page says the chair has since been upgraded for a new generation of workspaces. The 3193W version has a five-star base with castors. The page calls the chair minimalist, cushioned for comfort, with lumbar support for a more natural sitting posture.
