Collection Story

Origin

The Swan is Arne Jacobsen's series of 1958 for Fritz Hansen. The series page says he designed it for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, where it was meant for the lobby and lounges, and describes a form with no straight lines that still looks organic and soft. Wikipedia names the series a lounge chair and sofa in the Danish modern style and adds that Jacobsen used the Swan again in later projects such as Danmarks Nationalbank.

Design Language

The manufacturer pairs soft, organic shapes with a strong architectural appeal. Wikipedia notes that the Swan couch is still in production, and the product data says the sofa was reintroduced to Fritz Hansen's collection in 2000.
