Description

Overview

Pierre Guariche designed Vallée Blanche while collaborating on the creation of La Plagne ski resort. Les Huchers-Minvielle manufactured it in 1963, and it received an award at the Salon des Arts Ménagers that year. The chaise longue is held in the Centre Pompidou permanent collection.

Structure and comfort

Two cut and folded brilliant-chromed metal sheets form the seamless spider-shaped base. Above it, a strapped, mechanically welded steel frame supports high-resilience Bultex polyurethane foam rated at 48 kg/m³. Dense foam wraps the edges around a tubular structure.

Cover and dimensions

The single stretch cover is designed for specialist removal. The official page lists Gentle and Warda textiles; Gentle has a 100% New Zealand wool pile. The chaise measures 700 x 1,520 x 700 mm (W x D x H), with a 220 mm seat height and weight of 26.4 kg.

Story

From La Plagne to a re-edition

The elongated 1963 seat belongs to Guariche's work around the new ski resort at La Plagne. Ligne Roset's re-edition retains the continuous upholstered silhouette, seamless base and removable stretch cover of the original design.

Folded metal beneath foam

The bright base is not a conventional four-leg frame. Folded metal sheets create a low spider form, fixed with visible chromed screws beneath the upholstered steel and foam structure.
