Description
Overview
Torus is an ottoman by Umberto Bellardi Ricci for Tacchini. Industrial materials converse with soft upholstery in a piece that approaches seating in an innovative and experimental way, with overlapping volumes.
Construction
Inside sits a wooden frame, with multi-density polyurethane foam as padding. A stainless steel base carries it, and the last layer is a fabric or leather cover, with 34 fabric names and 6 leather names. Industrial materials make up the base and structure, and any imperfections count as part of the design.
Specifications
The ottoman has a round plan.
Story
Elbows of ventilation ducts
In the factory that produces his prototypes, Umberto Bellardi Ricci first notices the elbows of ventilation ducts, joined in groups of four and wrapped in crossed ropes. Their curious, doughnut-like shape becomes a great source of inspiration for him.
A name and a base
He calls the shape Torus and reinterprets it as the base for these ottomans with overlapping volumes. Industrial materials find a new aesthetic and function alongside soft and refined finishes.
