Description

Overview

Tombolo is a 2016 armchair by Piero Lissoni, ready made by Studio unPIZZO for Living Divani. On the official page it is presented as a reinterpretation of the Cafè armchair with embroidered details and an original guise created by Bettina Colombo and Agnese Selva of Studio unPIZZO.

Construction

The indoor frame is tubular steel with Gunmetal grey epoxy polyester powder coating, or AISI 316 stainless with a matte satin surface. The seat panel is varnished steel on painted versions, or a self-supporting decorative HPL laminate panel on the stainless steel armchair. The seat cushion is differentiated-density polyurethane foam covered with acrylic fibres, and the backrest cushion is molded polyurethane foam. In both versions the woven structure is made with bobbin lace (Readymade unPIZZO) in hypoallergenic, fully recyclable tubular material.

Specifications

The technical drawing gives 65, 69 and 72 cm (axes not labelled on the drawing), with 41, 45, 60 and 68 cm marked on the other views. Seat depth is 45 cm.

Story

Studio unPIZZO and the Cafè armchair

The official page presents Tombolo as a reinterpretation of the Cafè armchair that Piero Lissoni designed in 1999. The woven covering is the work of Bettina Colombo and Agnese Selva, whose Readymade unPIZZO technique crafts the weaving from bobbin lace.

Indoor and outdoor versions

The sheet lists an indoor version with fabric or leather upholstery and an outdoor version in AISI 316 stainless steel with outdoor fabrics only. The weaving material is offered in three colours.
