Description

Overview

Sesann is the sofa Gianfranco Frattini designed in 1970; Tacchini reissued it in 2015 and offers it with the Grand Sesann version. Tacchini calls it an icon of 1970s Italian design and "the absolute representation of softness": wide seats with a sensual, welcoming shape, where an exposed tubular metal frame embraces, contains and shapes the generous padding. Grand Sesann offers an even deeper and more welcoming seat.

Construction

Inside is a wooden frame. The padding combines one-component and multi-density polyurethane foam. The external structure is colour-coated or polished steel, stained solid ash makes up the feet; the final cover is fabric or leather. Tacchini states that the entirely handcrafted upholstery makes each piece unique.

Story

A New Way of Sitting

Tacchini places Sesann within a new vision of contemporary living that emerged around 1970, when ergonomics adapted to social change and people sought a less rigid, more relaxed way of sitting. Frattini's response was a sofa of wide seats with a sensual, welcoming shape — an icon of informal comfort.

Softness Meets Metal

The design plays the softness of its rounded, gathered cushions against the expressive strength of the tubular steel frame that holds them. In reissuing the piece, Tacchini set out to restore that balance between elegance and warmth, bringing back a design that invites relaxation with natural sophistication.
