Description
Overview
Rod Bean is a 2017 sofa by Piero Lissoni made of central and terminal elements. Fluid, dynamic shapes join sinuously, and the degree of curve and the dual depth of the terminal units let the elements merge with existing ones.
Construction
The supporting structure combines 5 mm laser-cut steel sheet with calendered, painted tubular steel that carries a suspension of non-woven elastic straps in coated rubber, with polyurethane foam padding. The curved backrest and the armrest structure use 8 mm layered HPL panel, and the covering is 100% polyether lining with a thermofixed polyamide velveteen backing. Backrest and seat cushions are zipped together and containing goose down (pre-washed, sterilized) divided into stitched compartments, above differentiated-density polyurethane foam and Visco-soft. Polyurethane foam wrapped in goose down makes up the armrest cushions, supported by a poplar plywood panel that hooks to the frame with plug-in hinges. Leather or fabric upholstery comes off completely with zippers and Velcro fastenings. Each foot is screwed to the base via a bushing; the floor is met by adjustable plastic tips.
Specifications
Overall height of the elements: 70 cm. Seat depth: 60 cm.
Story
A sofa of curved central and terminal elements
Piero Lissoni designed Rod Bean in 2017. It consists of central and terminal elements whose fluid, dynamic shapes come together sinuously to make even more alluring spaces. The degree of curve and the dual depth of the terminal units allow the elements to integrate with those already in place, opening to new settings and combinations.
Structure, cushions and feet
Laser-cut steel sheet and calendered tubular steel form the supporting structure, while HPL panel shapes the curved backrest and the armrests. Goose down in stitched compartments fills the backrest and seat cushions, which are joined with a zipper. Two foot materials are listed: AISI 304 stainless steel, polished or matt satin, and painted steel finished in burnished, Gunmetal Grey or matt-black paint. Seat depth: 60 cm.
