Description
Overview
Vitra introduces the LCM, the Lounge Chair Metal, with the nickname it picked up soon after launch: the 'potato chip chair'. The name refers to the slender, organic curves of the seat and back shells. Charles and Ray Eames are the designers and Vitra gives the date as 1945/1946.

Construction
Two plywood shells, finished with a veneer and lacquer in ash or walnut, form the seat and back; leather or calfskin over thin foam is an option. What carries them is a tubular steel base, chrome-plated or powder-coated. Shock mounts made of rubber bonded to metal join the shells to the frame.
Specifications
560 mm wide, 635 mm deep, 650 mm high; seat height 315 mm. The shell finishes are numbered 64 (ash, natural), 45 (walnut, black pigmented) and 68 (ash, black), all lacquered. For the frame you choose 01 chrome or 30 basic dark, a smooth powder coat.
Story
The steel-base lounge chair
Within the Plywood Group the LCM is the lounge chair on a metal base. Vitra's product page opens with the nickname 'potato chip chair' and explains it by the slender organic shapes of the seat and back shells.
Choices on the page
The LCM page carries a long list of options: besides three shell finishes and two frame finishes there is a cover choice of one leather and two calfskin colourways, and a Base on selector that includes glides for carpet. The upholstered LCM Leather and LCM Calf's Skin are drawn separately from the plain shell chair.
