Description
Overview
Notturno a New York is a three-seat sofa by Gaetano Pesce, presented on the Cassina page as a "design tribute to the city that never sleeps". The system is made of nine skyscraper-modules that serve as seats and armrests, joined to one another by fasteners, and the backrest portrays a giant full moon.
Construction
The sheet lists a structure in CARB2 certified wood with a frame fitted with elastic webbing, padding in polyurethane that includes bio-sourced polyols, a slipcover in recycled PET fibre and an exclusive upholstery fabric with a three-dimensional jacquard effect.

Story
A new chapter of Tramonto a New York
The sheet describes Notturno a New York as a visionary work that returns in a special series of 50 pieces, a new chapter in a story begun in the 1980s with Tramonto a New York. That earlier work is described as the one with which Pesce surprised his adoptive city at sunset, then returned its image through a series of spacious upholstered pieces arranged as if to reproduce its skyline.
The hidden side of the moon
According to the sheet, the backrest portrays a giant full moon, and through this work Pesce reveals to the world its mysterious side, not visible from Earth. Cassina reinterprets the piece in a version "with a conscious soul", with recycled PET fibre as standard in the padding of its upholstered pieces.
