Description

Overview

Mathare is a collection of tables and a bench designed by Giacomo Moor for Cappellini, built on a construction system of sequential joints that leaves out anything superfluous or decorative. The tables come in various sizes, and a contract version is available for custom configurations.

Construction

The top is made of medium-density fibreboard conglomerate panels, oak veneered, and the base and under-top support bars are solid oak. The feet are grey felt. Legs, crossbars and chains repeat in modules, which Cappellini presents as optimising the production process.

Specifications

270 x 100 x 75 cm (MTR1). Designed by Giacomo Moor in 2025. Made in Italy.

Story

From a school project in Nairobi

Giacomo Moor, a young Milanese designer, joins the Cappellini creative team with Mathare. Cappellini states that the collection's name draws inspiration from a humanitarian initiative in which Moor designed and crafted furniture for a school in Mathare, one of the largest slums in Nairobi, Kenya.

Interlocking construction

The collection reinterprets the concept of interlocking, traditionally associated with classic woodworking techniques, through the modular repetition of legs, crossbars and chains. All pieces are made of oak, in natural or black-stained finishes or in the open-pore lacquered versions.
