Mamy Blue Bed

Overview

The Mamy Blue bed is by Roberto Lazzeroni; the sheet heading carries 2014. Poltrona Frau describes it as half-bed, half-sculpture, shaped and made by its own craftsmen, with a headboard whose curved lines envelop the bed base and take their cue from the armchair that gives the bed its name.

Construction

The central part of the headboard is solid beech, poplar and birch plywood, with the shaped sides in moulded polyurethane foam. According to the sheet the frame is fir blockboard with a poplar plywood footboard (the page names spruce blockboard and MDF), and the feet are solid ash in a wenge or moka stain.

Named after an armchair

According to the sheet, the bed's headboard is inspired, in its curved lines that wrap around the bed base, by the Mamy Blue armchair from which the bed takes its name. Roberto Lazzeroni reconciles its large forms with a soft, rounded design.

Made to take centre stage

The sheet describes a bed conceived as the protagonist of the room, where the headboard stands out. The page says the feet counterbalance the majesty of the bed by lifting it from the floor and lightening its visual impact.
