Mamy Blue Armchair

Overview

Mamy Blue is an armchair designed by Roberto Lazzeroni for Poltrona Frau; it dates from 2013. Poltrona Frau describes it as an armchair for meditation, designed for relaxing and reading, with curved, agile forms and a clever use of materials.

Construction

The backrest shell is moulded polyurethane foam, the seat structure seasoned beech with hand-tied biconical steel springs on jute belts, and the base is solid ash on four feet, fixed to the shell by a black varnished steel plate. An optional headrest rests on the backrest with a counterweight sewn into its lining.

Materials as the design idea

Both the page and the sheet put the emphasis on materials. The page says the armchair can be upholstered entirely in Pelle Frau® leather or in combinations of saddle leather, leather and fabric, and that the combination is enhanced by visible contrast stitching. The sheet adds that the first upholstery covers the outer shell and the second the inside and the seat.
