Description
Overview
This is the tall stool of the Eames Fiberglass line. A fibreglass seat shell by Charles and Ray Eames sits on a four-legged steel base with a footrest. Of the two base heights Vitra offers, this model is the one meant for tables at standing height; the lower one is for ordinary kitchen counters.

Construction
Fibreglass-reinforced polyester, coloured through, forms the shell. Its surface is not even: fibres appear in changing patterns, and colour and pigment specks differ between shells. The base is made of steel tube that is either chrome-plated or powder-coated and cannot be stacked. Vitra also lists a moulded foam cushion that is screwed to the shell.
Specifications
Base 470 mm wide and 540 mm deep, overall height 1200 mm; shell 440 mm wide and 475 mm deep. The seat's front edge is 820 mm above the floor without a cushion. Seven Eames shell colours are offered, and the base comes in chrome (01) or basic dark powder coat (30).
Story
A stool in the fibreglass range
The page dates the stool 1950, like the rest of the Fiberglass Chairs, and lists its four-legged base in two heights, medium and high.
Height and footrest
Because a person sits much higher on this stool, the base has a footrest. Vitra's technical text pairs the 820 mm front-edge height with counters and tables from 110 to 115 cm. It adds that on the powder-coated base the anti-slip coating on the footrest can wear and show marks.
