Overview
The Archibald stool with steel base is Jean-Marie Massaud's height-adjustable member of the Archibald stools for Poltrona Frau. A curved seat in Pelle Frau® leather or fabric sits on a swivelling steel column with a footrest and a floor plate.

Construction
- Backrest shell: rigid polyurethane, moulded
- Under the seat: a birch plywood frame and an apron to the base
- Base: steel stem with gas spring, stainless steel footrest, steel floor plate

Story
A column in place of legs
Where the wooden-base stools of the Archibald line stand on legs, this version carries the seat on a single steel stem. Poltrona Frau's sheet calls it the column stool: the stem turns through 360° and a gas spring sets the height.
Mirror polish and a brushed footrest
The page says all visible steel is mirror-polished, with one exception: the top face of the rectangular footrest, which has a unidirectional brushed finish. The sheet adds that the footrest is mirror-polished on three sides and the floor plate is semi-oval.
