Aalto Children's Table round

Overview

Artek identifies the Aalto Children's Table round with Alvar Aalto and dates it 1933. The round top and rounded edges are intended to make the table safer for children, while the replaceable L-legs allow the table to grow with its users. Artek describes it as suitable for both public and private settings, including libraries and family homes.

Construction

The legs and top edge-band use solid birch. Artek specifies a chipboard or honeycomb core beneath the top. Its listed surface versions are birch veneer, high-pressure laminate and linoleum.

The official drawing shows a 100 cm diameter and 60 cm height. The table is stackable on request.

A table for changing uses

Artek presents this round children's table as a piece that moves between a library and a family home. Its rounded edges address safety, while the replaceable legs mean that the table can grow with the children who use it. The page connects its use to board games, homework, drawing, crafts and building a fort.

Aalto and the L-leg
