Biography
Background
Yuchen Wu grew up on the east coast of Taiwan, between mountain and sea, and Normann Copenhagen's designer page describes that countryside upbringing as a significant source of inspiration for her work. She pursued design studies out of a wish to create things that enrich people's lives, then worked at a design studio in Taiwan, where she discovered her calling in furniture and accessory design. She went abroad for international experience, ended up in Denmark and now works as an in-house designer at Normann Copenhagen.
Signature Style
Her design philosophy is a harmonious balance between aesthetics and functionality, with objects that are practical for everyday use and also carry beauty and poeticism. She starts by weaving a story into the idea and only then turns to the technical aspects, and she prioritises sustainability in her process. Her inspiration comes from watching how people interact with design in daily life, from public furniture and from vintage designs that she reinterprets into modern versions.
Notable Works
Normann Copenhagen lists the Knit Armchair, the Fyr Stool, the Bubba Lamp, the Join Sculpture and the Flick Rug among her designs. The Knit Armchair, with its knitted Myr textile cover, carries a 2025 year of design on its fact sheet.
Legacy
In a September 2025 Designer Spotlight she described her approach as more relaxed than before, wanting objects to live alongside people and become part of their routines and stories. She says she hopes people will cherish and pass down what she designs.
