Biography
Background
Komplot Design is a design studio in Copenhagen founded in 1987 by the Danish architect Poul Christiansen (born 1947) and the Russian-born industrial and graphic designer Boris Berlin (born 1953). Christiansen graduated as an architect from the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1973; Berlin trained as an industrial designer in Saint Petersburg and moved to Denmark in 1983.
Signature Style
The studio works across industrial, graphic and furniture design, from tractors and office furniture systems to brochures and corporate identities. The partners see design as a go-between linking art and engineering, makers and end users, tradition and innovation, rationality and intuition.
Notable Works
- The GUBI 3D Chair (2003), the first chair to use three-dimensional veneer technology in GUBI's production
- The rubber chair Non and the Collage tables
- Furniture and lighting for clients such as Hay, GUBI, Le Klint, Lightyears and Fora Form
Legacy
The GUBI chair is in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York, and in 2015 Christiansen and Berlin received the Thorvald Bindesbøll Medal from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
