Biography

Background

Iskos-Berlin Design is a Copenhagen-based partnership of Boris Berlin and Aleksej Iskos, working in industrial, furniture and graphic design. The firm was established in late 2010, after 23 years of Komplot Design. Boris Berlin (born 1953, St. Petersburg) co-founded Komplot Design in 1987; Aleksej Iskos (born 1965, Kharkov) graduated from Denmark's Designskole in 1996 and worked at Komplot from 1999 to 2010.

Signature Style

The duo sees design as an art of storytelling, built from semantics, morphology, materiality and technology. They aim for stories that are clear, surprising and that make people smile, and they experiment with new technologies and materials, letting the materials speak for themselves.

Notable Works

For Muuto they designed the Fiber Chair family (2014), a shell chair in a composite of plastic and wood fibers. Their own portfolio includes the 5-Waves chair, Knit-Wit, JUST chair, Godot sofa series and The Danish Chair.

Legacy

Works by Iskos-Berlin and Komplot are held by design museums including MoMA and Designmuseum Danmark, and the duo works with leading manufacturers worldwide.
