Biography
Background
Daniel Rybakken was born in 1984 and grew up in Oslo, Norway. He studied design at the Oslo School of Architecture and at the School of Arts & Crafts in Gothenburg, Sweden. When he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in 2008 he opened his own studio, in Oslo and Gothenburg according to Luceplan and in Gothenburg according to HAY.
Signature Style
His work sits between art and design and takes the form of limited editions, art installations and prototypes for serial production. The thread through it is daylight: his main focus has been to work with daylight and with how its appearance and its subconscious effect can be recreated artificially.
Notable Works
- Petit Standard and the Arbour sofa collection, designed with Andreas Engesvik, for HAY
- Kiila coat stand for Artek, 2017, part of the first collaboration between Artek and Rybakken and, according to Artek, his very first furniture commission
- Amisol for Luceplan
