Moving monoshell
Zeph Side Chair uses a kinematic monoshell that reclines through the geometry of the shell. Studio 7.5 developed it through repeated 3D-printed prototypes.
Optional 3D Knit
A removable seat pad or unibody textile can be fitted without tools. Herman Miller states that the knit contains 50% post-consumer recycled content and is made with zero fabric waste.
Dimensions
The armless four-leg chair measures 21.4 in wide, 20.1 in deep and 32.8 in high. A version with fixed arms is 24.2 in wide.
Story
Animating a shell chair
Studio 7.5 set out to make a shell chair move. The team used 3D printing to work through monoshell prototypes until the shape produced a natural recline, using the sitter’s own pivot points as part of the counterbalance.
Colour and textile changes
The shell and base can share one continuous finish. An optional 3D Knit pad slides into the shell without tools, while the unibody version covers both seat and back and can also be removed or exchanged.
