Description

Overview

Wedge is a coffee table by nendo for Minotti. Three semi-circular legs, cut at an oblique chisel angle, carry a round, square, rectangular or elliptical top, and the legs show through the surface.

Construction

The top is 12+8 mm laminated, tempered, bevelled glass, or 25 mm MDF with brushed Louro Faia veneer in an open-pore Moka lacquer. The legs are glossy Dark Brown reconstituted Palisander, Malt-varnished satin stainless steel or polished stainless steel, with protective ABS glides.

Specifications

  • Largest drawing: 180 × 100 × H29 cm rectangular top
  • Other drawings: 170 × 100 elliptical, Ø135 round and 135 × 135 square, all H29 cm
  • Glass top: 12+8 mm; wood top: 25 mm

Story

Legs on tiptoe

Minotti says the oblique chisel tip of the semi-circular legs lightens the coffee table and creates the idea of a support on tiptoe. The same graphic approach appears in the top, where the semi-circles of the three supports can be seen through the surface.

nendo's Wedge collection

nendo's own project page for Wedge, made for Minotti and dated April 2019, describes a collection of dining tables and low tables whose legs are thick cylinders split vertically in half, each curved side cut at a 30-degree diagonal. The dining table has its own Minotti page.
