Tuscany

Overview

Tuscany is a chaise longue by Naoto Fukasawa, dated 2023 on the datasheet. Molteni&C says it interprets the iconic vistas of the Italian landscape through the designer's own aesthetic, merging Italian and Japanese stylistic cues.

Construction

The datasheet describes a structure of solid ash (Fraxinus excelsior) in eucalyptus stain, with metal parts in satin stainless steel or satin brass. The shape is obtained by curving different layers of wood. Cushions are zipped to one another, and a rounded headrest moves independently of them.

Italian and Japanese

Molteni&C writes that Fukasawa interpreted the iconic vistas of the Italian landscape through the lens of his own aesthetic culture, in a way that captures the finest of both worlds, Italian and Japanese. The datasheet adds that the shape of the chaise longue draws on a tradition that began in the 1920s and 1930s, when this type of furniture was born.

The page says the form is the result of meticulous technical development by the Research and Development Department at Molteni&C, which created the proportions of the chaise's unique shape together with the designer. The datasheet describes a slow process in which the characteristic shape is obtained by curving different layers of wood, stratified piece by piece.
