Story

A 1975 design re-edited

Cassina's page says the table was designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1975 and is reintroduced by Cassina in two versions with updated dimensions and finishes. It re-edits the table with the tabletop in the original round shape, and adds a version with a rectangular top.

Geometry as the starting point

The page describes an architecture distilled into a table, using geometry, with circle and rectangle, straight lines and curves, parallels and perpendiculars played against each other.
