Description

Overview

Tama Desk is an executive desk designed by EOOS for Walter Knoll. The program consists of three levels, a pedestal, a desk top and a shelf, and Walter Knoll calls it a think desk.

Construction

The 28 mm desk top is a pre-milled MDF top covered with veneer in a vacuum procedure, with an edge rounded at the top and tapered at the bottom. The panel legs are 12 mm steel in matt powder-coated bronze, the shelf is sheet steel, and the pedestal pullout and drawer are painted bronze with soft closing.

Specifications

  • Desk top thickness: 28 mm
  • Panel legs: steel, 12 mm, matt powder-coated bronze
  • Pedestal: one pullout and one drawer, soft closing
  • Leather: leather pad and leather-covered modesty panels, Congress leather inlay as accessory

Story

A desk rethought as a think desk

EOOS asked how a desk has to look to become its owner's think tank. The answer is an organic form, since nature has no right angles, built from the interplay of vertical and horizontal surfaces the studio has explored for years.

New veneer techniques

The Walter Knoll development team created entirely new construction and veneer techniques for the desk. A vacuum procedure applies the veneer to the top, the sides and the curves, which gives the surfaces and the body their unorthodox look.
