Description

Overview

Table En Forme Libre is a dining table with rounded, asymmetrical lines, designed by Charlotte Perriand (the sheet heading reads 1959; sources disagree on when work on the series began, 1938 or 1928) and produced by Cassina in 2011. The page says it seats up to eight people.

Construction

The slatted top rests on three cylindrical legs, one larger oval and two smaller. The solid version is in solid mahogany; the lacquered version has a lacquered top and solid beech legs, in matt or glossy lacquer.

Specifications

  • 525: 236 cm long, 107 cm deep, 74 cm high
  • Finishes: solid mahogany, matt lacquer, glossy lacquer
  • Lacquer colours on the page: 7

Story

From her Montparnasse atelier

The page and the sheet's English and French text say Perriand started work on the tables en forme libre in 1938 for her own atelier in the Montparnasse area, and that they went into production with the Galerie Steph Simon at the end of the 1950s. The sheet's Italian and German columns give 1928 for the start of the series.

Re-issued in 2011

For the 2011 re-issue Cassina reduced the size of the legs, leaving more space and allowing guests to sit closer to each other.
