Description
Overview
The S 160 is a polypropylene-shell chair on a chrome-plated tubular steel frame, designed by Delphin Design in 2010. Thonet developed the S 160 range for event venues, cafeterias and cosy contract spaces, and the chairs stack and link into rows without tools (Thonet patent). The range has a low or high backrest, several upholstery options, armrest versions, a writing panel and the S 160 H barstool.
Construction
The shell is polypropylene, more than 95 % recycled industrial waste according to Thonet's brochure. The brochure lists the S 160, S 162 and S 164 with the row connector and the S 161 versions without it. Thonet's page says up to 17 chairs can be stacked tightly.
Specifications
- Dimensions (S 160): W 57 cm x D 54 cm x H 82 cm
- Seat height / weight: 45 cm, 5.6 kg
- Centre-to-centre distance with row linking: 52 cm
Story
Delphin Design, 2010
Thonet's page dates the S 160 to 2010 and credits it to Delphin Design, the Berlin studio of Thomas G. Wagner and Dirk Loff. Thonet's October 2018 press release calls the S 160 the collection launched in 2010.
Orgatec 2018
At Orgatec 2018 Thonet showed two additions to the S 160: the barstool S 160 H, designed by Thomas Wagner and Dirk Loff, and a chair 160 with a solid beech frame, the first time the auditorium chair came with wooden legs.
