Description

Overview

Renew Sit-to-Stand Tables are height-adjustable desks designed by Brian Alexander for Herman Miller, offered in rectangle, oval and three corner shapes.

Construction

C-leg or T-leg bases carry a standard or extended electric lift, a crank or a pneumatic mechanism. A paddle, programmable or touch switch controls height, and power and cables route through the leg to a cable tray. Tops come in laminate, veneer or Formcoat, and the edge profile is square, thin or eased.

Specifications

Rectangular tops are 36 to 84 in wide and 24 to 36 in deep. Standard electric adjusts across 27 to 46 in and extended electric across 22 to 48 in; the lifting capacity is 250 lb.

Story

A switch based on intuition

The brochure introduces Brian Alexander as an observationalist who has compiled an owner's manual for humans since the late 1980s. One example is the Renew height switch: after watching how people use other switches, he designed a paddle control that follows our basic intuitions about direction, lift up to raise and press down to lower.

Looks finished from every side

Herman Miller describes a top-to-bottom design with softly angled corners, positioned legs and a cable tray tucked away, so leg room beneath the desk stays generous and the table looks presentable from all angles even when raised.
