Overview
Nonaro is a 1959 outdoor armchair credited to Luigi Caccia Dominioni. B&B Italia relates it to seating made for visitors studying Raphael's preparatory cartoon for The School of Athens at Milan's Pinacoteca Ambrosiana.
Construction
The sheet identifies metal, painted for the frame and mesh. Shaped polyurethane supplies the cushioning, water-repellent polyester fibre surrounds it, and the feet receive plastic ferrules. Only selected fabric categories are listed for the external cover.
Dimensions
The representative ON1 armchair measures 685 × 815 × 870 mm. Its arm level is 645 mm; the seat is 400 mm from the floor.
Story
Art, memory and a garden chair
Caccia Dominioni connected Nonaro to public art as well as private recollection. B&B Italia describes seating for the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, allowing visitors to pause before Raphael's preparatory work. It also traces the idea to an eighteenth-century garden chair at Villa Il Nonaro, the designer's family residence in Varese.
A continuing outdoor design
The armchair turns those references into curved supports, delicate arms and a cushioned seat. The current outdoor edition carries the 1959 date on both its own page and product-specific sheet.
