Story
Seating for looking at art
The official account traces the Nonaro chairs to visitors at Milan's Pinacoteca Ambrosiana who wanted to sit while viewing Raphael's Cartoon for the School of Athens. Caccia Dominioni connected that commission to Italian garden furniture and visual references from Roman frescoes and Renaissance painting.
A remembered garden chair
B&B Italia also records the designer's memory of an eighteenth-century chair at his family's Villa Il Nonaro in Varese.
