Description
Overview
The Nelson Coconut Lounge Chair is a triangular-cushion lounge chair by George Nelson for Herman Miller, true to its original 1955 design and updated with a more sustainable polymer shell. It is offered with a choice of upholstery options and patterns.
Construction
A one-piece foam rubber cushion in a polymer shell, on a three-legged bent steel base with nylon glides in white or trivalent chrome.
Specifications
The drawing gives 40 in wide, 32.5 in deep and 33 in high, not labelled on the drawing.
Story
A slice of coconut
The design-story page says the three-point triangular cushion evokes a chunk of coconut, and that Nelson said it looked like one of eight slices of a whole coconut. The third corner, which forms the backrest, is slightly longer than the two on the sides.
