Signed chest
Ettore Sottsass designed Mombasa model 7800 in 1989 as a signed chest of drawers. The upper frame, lower drawer top and feet use plywood veneered in ash and painted dark brown with an open-pore finish.
Drawers and drawing
Zanotta specifies polished pearwood for the lower frame and drawers, with brass handles. The drawing places 82, 58 and 143 cm beside the views, with no axis names.
Histoire
Sottsass in 1989
The current page credits Ettore Sottsass and gives 1989; both details recur in the model 7800 sheet and Edizioni archive. Zanotta calls Mombasa a signed original.
Contrasting cabinet sections
The specification separates the chest into distinct material zones. Dark-brown open-pore ash veneer covers the upper frame, lower drawer top and feet, while polished pearwood forms the lower frame and drawers. Brass is reserved for the handles.
