Upholstered suspension
GUBI presents the M-Chair as a fully upholstered dining chair designed by Marcel Gascoin in 1937. Its backrest rises from within the seat construction instead of being conventionally attached behind it, producing the floating effect named by the manufacturer.
Metal base and selected textile
The documented item 10154043 uses powder-coated metal legs in a matt finish, standard glides and Asator by Kvadrat. GUBI records the fabric at 80,000 Martindale.
Dimensions
The official drawing and specification table establish an overall size of 460 W × 535 D × 825 H mm for the selected fully upholstered configuration. The same table gives a product weight of 16.5 lb.
Story
An archival design enters production
GUBI states that Marcel Gascoin designed the M-Chair in 1937 and that the company developed the current chair from archival references. The model reveals work that predates the wooden furniture for which Gascoin later became known.
A distinct construction
The manufacturer identifies the backrest suspension as the chair's defining move. Supported from inside the seat construction, the upholstered back appears separate from the compact seat and the four tapered metal legs, giving this specific design its graphic clarity.
