Description

Overview

Horizonte is Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27's modular seating system for Minotti. Large padded seats, backs and arms sit on a thin base wrapped in leather, fabric or both, held seven centimetres off the floor by a recessed plinth in matt black varnished metal. Modules, sloping elements and elements with a built-in top combine in many configurations.

Construction

Layers of variable-density, resilient polyurethane foam make up the seat cushion, with steel pocket springs at its core, in heat-bonded polyester quilting on white cotton. Backrest cushions use siliconised microfibre in separate channels. The product sheet names a plywood structure, with elastic webbing in arms and backs. A metal perimeter base in matt Black stands on adjustable feet. Covers of the structure, seat and back cushions come off in full in every version, fabric or leather.

Specifications

Sofa 254 cm: 254 cm wide, 106 cm deep and 85 cm high, as Minotti's drawing shows. Sofas of 280 and 306 cm are listed as well. Tops fixed to the base are Canaletto walnut stained Dark Brown or Liquorice lacquered ash (60 mm thick), or Nero Marquina, Calacatta, Grigio Orobico marble or brushed Belvedere granite (a 44 mm panel with a 16 mm slab).

Story

An island with square lines

Minotti introduces Horizonte as a floating island of square lines that marks the horizon of the living space. A suspended base, a solid thin line clad in leather, fabric or both, carries large padded elements.

Kogan's architectural eye

Minotti says the system fits Marcio Kogan's design philosophy and comes from a clear architectural vision: a rigorous form raised seven centimetres from the floor, so the sofa seems to hover.

A full stop

The module with a top is likened to a full stop in a sentence: it sits between seats and leaves the flow of the shape unbroken. The page adds that the family includes coffee tables and a side table.
