Story

From a spring exhibition to Milan

According to Fritz Hansen, the chair was introduced at the Designers' Spring Exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in 1957. Later that year it was shown at the Triennale in Milan and received the Grand Prix, which the text calls the finest distinction of the exhibition.

The steel-legged version

The product page adds that the Grand Prix with steel legs reflects Jacobsen's larger collection of stackable plywood chairs with tubular steel legs, and that the chair comes in a range of models customised with colours, wood types and upholstery. The sheet names five models: the 3130 chair, the 3131 swivel chair on castors, the 3138 counter stool, the 3139 bar stool and the 4130 chair with wooden legs.
