Description

Overview

Gli Scacchi is a playful series of small tables designed by Mario Bellini, named after and inspired by the game of chess. It is composed of three elements representing the Queen, the Knight and the Ruck, light and easy to move like pieces on a chessboard.

Construction

The upholstery is shaped polyurethane over an internal frame and base-frame of multi-layered poplar wood. The base-frame profile is metal, the ferrules are thermoplastic material and felt, and the cover is thick leather or Kanu leather.

Specifications

90 x 30 cm (W x D).

Story

A game of chess in soft form

The Gli Scacchi series is named after and inspired by the game of chess. Its three elements represent the Queen, the Knight and the Ruck, and together they create the shape of a parallelepiped through soft polyurethane structures that synchronise with the Camaleonda collection of seats.

From 1971 to the leather covers

In the 1971 original the elements were made of self-skinning polyurethane foam, which until then had been used only in the automotive industry. The 2020 version has soft Kanu or thick leather covers with visible stitching, and the metal base profile underlines the geometry of the shapes.
