Description

Overview

The Gentry sofa is credited by Moroso to Patricia Urquiola, 2011. The page presents a slender shell on steel tube legs that wraps around large independent seat and back cushions, offered with three seat depths in two- and three-seater versions and in a range of modular elements.

Construction

The data sheet gives cold injected polyurethane and polyester fibre over an internal steel frame, on bridge feet in chromed or powder-coated steel tube. The seat cushions are goose feathers with a polyurethane foam insert; the back, arm and optional cushions are goose feather. The upholstery is fully removable.

Specifications

  • Foot colours: steel chrome, black chrome, oxidored (RAL 3009) and anthracite (RAL 7016)
  • Covers named on the page: the three-dimensional knit Big Braid, textured bouclés and soft leathers
  • 2 seater sofa 210x90 (855): 210, 90 and 76 cm (axes not labelled on the drawing)

Story

Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, 2011

Moroso's text calls the Gentry sofa a project born of the search for rigorous, measured comfort that is supportive yet allows a hint of deformation. It describes a contemporary classic that looks at the codes of bourgeois tradition with a smile and reinterprets them with lightness and irony.

Shell and cushions

The page pairs a thin shell on essential steel tube legs with big independent seat and back cushions that the shell wraps and keeps in place. It names Big Braid, a three-dimensional knit, as the cover that shaped the sofa's iconic image.
