Overview
Eames Turned Stool is a versatile stool with four original Eames shapes. Herman Miller describes its depressions as deep enough for a comfortable seat and shallow enough to balance a cup of coffee.
Material and form
The stool is available in walnut, ebonized ash, and white oak. Its name reflects the process still used to manufacture it, while the four shapes retain the original Eames vocabulary.
Specifications
Shapes A–D are each 13.4 in wide × 13.8 in deep × 15 in high.
Story
An heirloom revised
The stool was first introduced in walnut in 1960 as the Eames Walnut Stool. Herman Miller says its new name reflects the addition of white oak and ebonized ash, as well as the turning process still used to manufacture it.
Everyday versatility
Ray Eames described the end depressions as deep enough to form a comfortable seat and shallow enough to balance a cup of coffee. That dual use is the central story of the sculptural form, which Herman Miller says has become a go-to in lobbies and living rooms around the world.
