Overview
Eames Tandem Sling Seating is a beam-based public seating system designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1962 for Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. It supports linked seats, tables, and back-to-back arrangements.
Current system
The present line offers interchangeable seat and back pads, optional tables, and power modules with USB-A, USB-C, and AC connections.
Representative specifications
A single seating position measures 23.25 in wide, 28 in deep, and 33.75 in high. Published linked configurations extend from two seats with a table to longer runs.
ストーリー
One year for O'Hare
Charles and Ray Eames were asked to design, produce, and install robust public seating for O'Hare International Airport within one year. Their 1962 solution adapted the sling system developed for the Eames Aluminum Group.
Updating the system
Brian Alexander later developed integrated power and a revised table for contemporary airport use, while retaining the original connected-seating concept.
