Doheny

Overview

Doheny is a bookcase by Giampiero Tagliaferri for Minotti, built around a single central upright in polished extruded aluminium that forms its structural framework. The shelves appear suspended, and the piece is designed for wall installation or floor placement.

Construction

The upright is a polished extruded aluminium section of 60 x 13 mm, with holes for freely positioning the shelves and shelf supports in satin-finish brass varnished Bronze colour. Shelves are blockboard MDF, 25 mm thick, with rectangular form and softened front corners. The trapezoidal side panels are polished aluminium, 8 mm thick, or aluminium clad in 12 mm Big Sur leather. Adjustable black rubber feet are fitted.

Shelves hung from a visible structure

Doheny takes shape from a polished aluminium extrusion that defines its framework and gives a configuration of suspended shelves with a clean graphic line. Machined solid-brass fixings with a bronze finish are deliberately left visible, so that the construction becomes part of the piece.

Compositions and accessories

Several units can be combined, even in different configurations, to build larger compositions on a wall. In place of a shelf, Doheny can take hooks for hanging pictures and objects, or octagonal glass tops.
