Description

Overview

Déjà-vu is a stool by Naoto Fukasawa for Magis, dated 2005. The piece described here is the high bar stool in polished aluminium, SD282.

Construction

Extruded aluminium forms the legs, while die-cast aluminium forms the seat and the foot-rest. Both parts come polished or painted, outdoor use is stated for the painted version, and the material is flame-retardant.

Specifications

50 x 50 x 76 cm (W x D x H, SD282). The finishes are polished aluminium and a black painted finish, black 5130.

Story

From a wooden stool to extruded aluminium

Déjà-vu takes its forms from the classic wooden stool, and they give a reassuring sense of familiarity. Yet the stool is made from a D-shaped extruded aluminium profile, which Naoto Fukasawa worked out together with Magis in order to obtain a versatile, light and durable piece of furniture.

A discreet presence

The look is minimalist, in keeping with Super Normal, a category Fukasawa created together with Jasper Morrison. Living, office and contract settings are the ones it is made for, and its presence stays discreet. Fukasawa says: "Design means observing objectively."
