Description
Overview
Charles Large Carré is the carré-covered edition of Charles Large, the wider-depth modular sofa that Antonio Citterio designed for B&B Italia. It carries the year 2024. B&B Italia explains the new look as part of a refresh of heritage-collection icons: the Charles Large family now gets a carré pattern.
Construction
Tubes and profiles of steel form the inner structure; the padding is cold shaped flexible polyurethane foam, finished in polyester fibre. The seat cushion uses shaped polyurethane at differing densities, plus sterilized down in the home version or polyester fibre in the public-spaces one. Elements CH48_C to CH72_C carry back cushions of polyester fibre in cotton. The die-cast aluminium feet are 19 cm (7 1/2") high, and the cover is fabric or leather with a grosgrain ribbon.

Story
The checkered cover
The page describes the checkered cover of the seat cushion as especially elaborate workmanship. Squares of the upper surface are cut individually and each is numbered at that stage for later identification. They are rejoined in sewing, where a textile ribbon (fabric) or a leather profile (leather upholstery) sits between them, applied to the short sides first (checkered / ribbon / checkered) and to the long sides next.
