Charles Bed

Overview

Antonio Citterio's Charles bed is a double bed with a design year of 2004 on the B&B Italia page and sheet. Its upholstery is fabric or leather, and the bed comes in two forms: one whose sides protrude from a slightly recessed mattress, and one whose band sits flush with the mattress.

Construction

Inside is a tubular steel and steel profile frame beneath a polyester fibre cover and flexible, cold shaped polyurethane foam. The external feet are die-cast aluminium. A variant on wheels is offered too, with a steel support frame and plastic wheels.

Specifications

Model LC180: 211 cm wide, 236 cm deep, 87 cm high, bed height 37 cm, for a 180 cm mattress.

The sofa's bed

On the product page the bed is introduced as an evolution of the Charles sofa of the same name, and it repeats that sofa's signature inverted "L" shaped foot.

Protruding sides or flush band

The page describes a more striking version, where the sides project beyond the slightly recessed mattress, next to a simpler one in which the band lies level with the mattress.
