Cestlavie Small Table With Storage

Overview

Cestlavie is a storage "basket" and also a side table, designed by GamFratesi for Poltrona Frau. A disk-shaped folding cover upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather gives access to the inside and doubles as a surface, while the body is woven from Saddle Extra leather strips and stands on slender steel legs.

Construction

• Basket: strips of Saddle Extra leather, 2 mm thick, dyed tone-on-tone including the edges; the inside surface of the strips has a transparent wax treatment
• Base of the basket: strips fixed and stitched by hand with waxed thread to a saddle leather disc
• Cover: two semicircular MDF panels joined at the centre by a solid beech crossbar that acts as a hinge, opening to 180°, covered in tone-in-tone Pelle Frau® leather
• Structure: oval-section aluminium tubing in the upper part with an internal reinforcement of 12 shaped aluminium rods in the weave
• Legs: steel, joined to the aluminium structure by die-cast aluminium fittings, with adjustable steel feet and protective felt pads
• Finishes: gunmetal grey or burnished

A sewing basket in leather

GamFratesi took their inspiration from the traditional sewing basket for the Cestlavie accessories. Straps of Cuoio Saddle Extra leather are woven by hand, one by one, to give form to the casing, and the textural sensations of the saddle leather meet the lightness of the metal design. Supported by a tubular aluminium structure, the basket appears suspended on slender, almost graphic, steel legs.

Strips and cover

The interwoven strips are dyed tone-on-tone, edges included, with techniques associated with fine small leather goods, and the inside surface is finished with a transparent protective wax. The top is a disk-shaped folding cover that gives access to the inside while serving as a surface.
