Borea

Overview

Borea is a 2021 outdoor design by Piero Lissoni, offered as two-seater (BE175) and three-seater (BE243) sofas. The page describes a tubular metal frame with a fluid, seamless design, without joints and interruptions, and a motif in the end part that rests on the ground.

Construction

• Frame: tubular metal and aluminium sheet
• Upholstery: shaped polyurethane of different density, polyester fibre
• Padding: 100% polyester fibre from recycled PET bottles around a polyurethane core
• Cover: fabric in limited categories, with a profile
• Ferrules: plastic material
• Cover cloth (waterproof): PES with a one-sided PU coating

An aeroplane that has landed

Piero Lissoni's concept for the Borea collection, quoted by B&B Italia: "Boreas is an airplane. It is an airplane that has landed, an airplane of 2020 but with a technological soul that perhaps comes from another century." The page adds that the metal bending processes borrow techniques typically used in the aeronautical sector and move them into outdoor furniture.

Recycled padding

The sheet says the cushions are padded with 100% polyester fibre obtained from recycled PET plastic bottles around a polyurethane core of diversified densities. A three-seater uses 510 bottles of 1500 ml, a two-seater 390.
