Description
Overview
Roberto Lazzeroni designed the Bolero Ravel table for Poltrona Frau. A single slab of barrel-shaped marble with tapered edges forms the top, and a self-supporting trestle base with three triangular-section legs carries it.
Construction
- Base: legs in solid Canaletto walnut (29) or wenge-stained ash (32), each with a triangular cross-section
- Fixings: black lacquered steel for the mounting plates and spacers, plus protective plastic caps
- Top: one barrel-shaped marble slab with tapered edges; the short sides are bevelled upward and the long sides downward
- Underside: a technical mesh reinforces the marble, and a birch plywood support in matt black texturised scratchproof paint adds strength and stability
Specifications
- 292 x 122 x 75 cm (W x D x H), overall weight 221 kg
Story
Inspired by Ravel's Bolero
Roberto Lazzeroni was inspired by Ravel's hypnotic Bolero, a sensual score of sounds that blend harmoniously in space, when he designed this table for Poltrona Frau. The marble top is joined to the supports with a spacer, so that it almost appears to float, and its faintly trapeze-like shape reduces the visual thickness to a minimum.
Edges and legs
The bevelled edges slant upwards on the short sides and downwards on the long sides, a sensation that reinforces the thin look. The original tapered triangular section lends the three-legged base more dynamism, and the overall effect is an ethereal table of understated elegance.
