Description
Overview
Azul is a 2020 bed by Nicola Gallizia. The page says it balances tradition with modernity and that its name evokes depth and serenity. The headboard is made of two sheets of leather sewn together, or can be upholstered in fabric or leather. The datasheet adds that the surface of the bed comes in two heights, with the option of an extra storage compartment underneath.
Construction
The headboard is built on a hot-welded metal frame, padded with cold-moulded polyurethane foam and covered in cotton and polyester fibre. The fixed bed surround is a metal frame with polyurethane foam padding covered in bonded velveteen; the container version has a foam rubber padded metal frame with chipboard border panels. The fixed feet are laser-cut, hot-welded and painted steel, and the container version stands on chromed steel feet with non-slip felt pads. The slatted base has a metal frame with wooden slats and a double pump raising mechanism with two positions.

Reduced to what is needed
According to the datasheet, the aesthetic balance of Azul comes from reducing the superfluous and from the well-proportioned construction of each component part. Exquisite details and delicate but clear lines add to what it calls a decidedly contemporary design.
Gallizia and Molteni&C
The sheet describes Azul as a way of reinventing the image of the bedroom and proposing a new way of sleeping, a synthesis of Nicola Gallizia's styling skills and Molteni&C's flair for innovation. On the page, the designer is said to reimagine the bedroom as a place of contemporary allure, combining craftsmanship, rich materials and stylistic clarity.
