Description

Overview

The Andy Large settee is the three-place sofa of Pierre Paulin's Andy, a design from 1962. Covers come from 29 materials, and its chromed steel legs are mounted inside the armrests.

Construction

Paulin's settee has a body of 3-layer particleboard and multi-ply panels, with a soldered steel seat structure under polyether foam. The base and the visible armrest insert are square-section steel, finished in either brilliant chrome or gloss black chrome. Each seat is individually sprung on Pullmaflex steel springs carrying steel wires. Multi-density Bultex high resilience foam (dominant 38 kg/m³, 3.6 kPa) in the seat cushions is wrapped in 300 g/m² polyester quilting, and the cushion outlines are piped.

Specifications

Overall size: W 2,210 x D 830 x H 730 mm, seat height 420 mm, three places, weight 80 kg.

Story

Chromed legs inside the armrests

On Andy, Pierre Paulin mounted the chromed steel legs inside the armrests, both at the front and at the rear, a detail as elegant seen from the front as from behind. Fitting each leg into its armrest called for more meticulous stitching and upholstery to finish it perfectly.

A classic settee from 1962

Andy dates from 1962 and seems set to be a great classic. Leather was its original presentation, and fabrics that feel good and carry an 'ennobling' effect can be used as well.
