Description

Overview

Almora is a revolving lounge chair designed for relaxation, contemplation and reading. B&B Italia describes its enveloping form as a protective second skin, while the separate headrest gives the silhouette a distinctive layered profile.

Construction

The seat and back are formed from two conical glass-fibre shells. The internal shell uses thermoformed ABS with flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam upholstery. A curved veneered wood multilayer panel forms the external headrest shell, with a padded portion and a merino cover option for the AP106A headrest. The support frame is aluminium and the ferrules are thermoplastic; the standard cover is leather.

Specifications

The AP106 configuration is shown at 106 cm wide, 84 cm deep and 106 cm high. The product sheet also identifies a coordinated AP76 footrest, while AP106A is a related configuration with the alternate headrest cover.

Story

A sheltered view

The name Almora refers to the Indian region associated with views of the Himalayas. The designers describe the chair as a place for contemplation and reading, imagined as a haven from the world and as protective as a soft blanket.

Hidden connections

The concept focuses on the meeting of distinct components. B&B Italia explains that an internal mechanical joint connects the seat and back shells, while the headrest inserts into the back shell and appears slightly detached. Doshi Levien describe the concealed screws as part of the chair's visual mystery.
