Description

Overview

Aero is a bookshelf designed by Shibuleru in 2016 for Living Divani. Its aerodynamic shelves are supported by a set of fluctuating vertical posts, as if by magic, creating a new domestic totem.

Construction

Each shelf is a contoured double panel, 18 mm thick, made of a 7 cm frame in solid beech wood and a honeycomb board, enclosed by two aluminium plates. The plates are fitted with holes and bushings that take the Ø22 mm steel posts, which end in integrated height-adjustable plastic feet and carry an epoxy powder coating. Shelves are finished in anti-scratch matt painting or in a hand-applied cement finish.

Specifications

Shelf thickness: 18 mm. Post diameter: Ø22 mm.

Story

Shelves and posts

Aero is built from two components, shelves and uprights, and the shelf finish and the post finish are chosen separately. Four shelf finishes and three post finishes are offered, and the Gunmetal Grey post colour belongs to the cement-effect version only.

The cement-effect finish

The cement-effect shelves are worked by hand. After the surface is sanded, two layers of primer go on with a brush and roller, then two layers of cement are applied with a spatula, each stage followed by a 24-hour drying cycle and further sanding. Two protective finishes close the process, and an acrylic paint finish and a nano-molecular varnish protect the surface from stains and chemical agents, especially of food nature.
